World Book Day

I don't believe that I could live without books. There isn't a day ever where I don't look at one, read one, pick one up from the floor, buy one, order or collect one from the library or write in one. The written word is such an integral part of my life, I could not image how it could ever be any different. I love to write, either my blog, messages to friends, in my diary, the written word is everything to me.

As a literacy teacher I spend a vast amount of my time working with words, trying to inspire the reading and writing of words, often to those who either don't have regular access to books or sincerely do not wish to engage with text (other than on their phones or Facebook). However these young people are my new inspiration. Each of the teenagers in my class know that today is World Book Day and everyone of them took a £1 book token. Quite a few of them have even bought books with them, but as always there are those who surprise me and truly make me feel proud to be a teacher. Each of my students has their own barriers to learning: health, circumstances, environment, ability; life and learning are not necessary as carefree as you would want those teenage years to be. There is however one student who I am incredibly proud of. Don't get me wrong, each and everyone are my favourites but on World Book Day and considering my love of the written word and blogs, I would please ask you to click on the link below. All of the posts on the blog are by the same student and she has also chose the name:

Turning Thoughts Into Written Words

Please find the time to leave a comment on the blog, it is after all World Bood Day and the blog is dedicated to reading.

Note to those who have asked for advice on blogs: If you want to write one, you just should, everyone has to start somewhere and it's about being brave enough to take that step, turn your thoughts into written words.

Firsts

It's been a day of firsts. I have been feeling a little bit under the weather and after being sick this morning I did not want to sit in the car for hours. So my husband and children have gone to visit my family without me. This did make me so sad but as there was nothing I could do about it, I thought I would just do my best to enjoy having time completely to myself. I have never been alone in the house over night. People have been away and I've been away but I have never had the whole place to myself for the whole night. I've finally got to grips with instagram and how the liking and the following and the whole thing works. I even got my first ever like which was so exciting. I'm guessing it's pretty addictive. Who should I follow? Where do I find people who love the same things as me? I think I still need a bit of help. And for the first time ever, an ironing board has been the object of my desire. I don't think that it even crossed my mind that ironing...

My first giveaway - Mod Podge Paperweight

My first giveaway I have learnt so much about blogging in such a short space of time, but what seems strikingly obvious is how important your readers are. One of the other things I noted is, the generosity of the bloggers with their giveaways. Everyone likes to get something for nothing, it is always quite exciting to be a winner and what better way to keep and increase your readership. What's even better is, that I get to make up the rules. So I am very pleased to announce my first giveaway. This is it. It is a glass paperweight that I made today using some scrap material from my quilt, a charity shop treasure and one of my favourite new discoveries - Mod Podge How I made it Materials * A glass tile (I found this one in the 50p basket in a charity shop yesterday) *Some totally gorgeous fabric - this is Kaffe Fassett Fabric - Milliefiore - Red * Sparkle Mod Podge It was really quite simple after I had found all the materials. I measured and cut the fabric to the sam...

Gathered

The more I craft, the more I read and blog about craft. One of my favourite crafty magazines is Mollie Makes . If the world were just like an edition of Mollie Makes magazine then I would be very happy. It is just filled with the most deliciously fabulous craftiness and super talented people. I really do look forward to every copy dropping on the door mat each month. Recently life has got even better because the makers of Mollie Makes now produce a weekly online interactive magazine called Gathered. Once again it is full to the brim with beautiful loveliness and is out every Friday with all the best ideas to keep you busy over the next week. I do love it so and even better than all of that, this week one of my photos has been included in the Show and Tell collection. I was so excited. It's a photo of my crochet African flowers stacked up ready to make to make a Christmas stocking that you can see here and I am hoping to sell at the school Christmas fair on Thursday but i...
