Craft Ban

There has been a distinct lack of crafting going on since the December Christmas craft a day postings , however this is not due to over doing it on the craft front and needing a bit of a rest. Of course my challenge to lose some weight is taking up some of my crafting time but the main reason is that I have enforced a craft ban on myself. Last year the zip in my favourite pair of boots broke and if I didn't ban myself from all other projects, I feared that I would never get around to fixing it. It is no easy task either and requires triple stitching on each side by hand through leather. It certainly is tough on the fingers although I do love wearing my Grandmother's silver thimble.

I've even given up my daily fix of Pinterest, craft blogs and Flipboard. It was all going very well. I collected a book called Indie Craft from the library and hadn't even flicked through until last night when I had a headache and went for a little lie down before the gym. Big mistake! It is crammed full of inspirational textile artists including the crayon sculptress, Diem Chau. Until last night I was not aware of her embroidered porcelain and now the flood gates of creativity have been flung open and it is very difficult to focus on finishing the zip repair when there is vintage tea cups just waiting to be embellished with embroidery.

Firsts

It's been a day of firsts. I have been feeling a little bit under the weather and after being sick this morning I did not want to sit in the car for hours. So my husband and children have gone to visit my family without me. This did make me so sad but as there was nothing I could do about it, I thought I would just do my best to enjoy having time completely to myself. I have never been alone in the house over night. People have been away and I've been away but I have never had the whole place to myself for the whole night. I've finally got to grips with instagram and how the liking and the following and the whole thing works. I even got my first ever like which was so exciting. I'm guessing it's pretty addictive. Who should I follow? Where do I find people who love the same things as me? I think I still need a bit of help. And for the first time ever, an ironing board has been the object of my desire. I don't think that it even crossed my mind that ironing...

My first giveaway - Mod Podge Paperweight

My first giveaway I have learnt so much about blogging in such a short space of time, but what seems strikingly obvious is how important your readers are. One of the other things I noted is, the generosity of the bloggers with their giveaways. Everyone likes to get something for nothing, it is always quite exciting to be a winner and what better way to keep and increase your readership. What's even better is, that I get to make up the rules. So I am very pleased to announce my first giveaway. This is it. It is a glass paperweight that I made today using some scrap material from my quilt, a charity shop treasure and one of my favourite new discoveries - Mod Podge How I made it Materials * A glass tile (I found this one in the 50p basket in a charity shop yesterday) *Some totally gorgeous fabric - this is Kaffe Fassett Fabric - Milliefiore - Red * Sparkle Mod Podge It was really quite simple after I had found all the materials. I measured and cut the fabric to the sam...

Gathered

The more I craft, the more I read and blog about craft. One of my favourite crafty magazines is Mollie Makes . If the world were just like an edition of Mollie Makes magazine then I would be very happy. It is just filled with the most deliciously fabulous craftiness and super talented people. I really do look forward to every copy dropping on the door mat each month. Recently life has got even better because the makers of Mollie Makes now produce a weekly online interactive magazine called Gathered. Once again it is full to the brim with beautiful loveliness and is out every Friday with all the best ideas to keep you busy over the next week. I do love it so and even better than all of that, this week one of my photos has been included in the Show and Tell collection. I was so excited. It's a photo of my crochet African flowers stacked up ready to make to make a Christmas stocking that you can see here and I am hoping to sell at the school Christmas fair on Thursday but i...
