Free from stuff

As a teacher it isn't okay to have favourites but rules were made to be broken. It's quite easy to get on my list of favourites, it is in fact any student that I see regularly. However obviously the more I see a student, the more I get to know them and familiarity leads to fondness. I have one in particular who is on the autistic spectrum. He has such a wonderful turn of phrase. He believes that there is no good or bad weather it's just weather and I wholeheartedly agree. For what seems like forever I believed  I had good days and bad days but not any more. For 2016 I am just going to have days and I am sure this new perspective will make a big difference.

So on 1 February I can announce that I have already made some exciting new discoveries. I've learnt how to use the zipper foot on my sewing machine and in the process made a skirt. Bags and bags of whatever have left the house as part of my decluttering which was long overdue. I can't believe how much of the stuff I was holding onto without really realising that I was. I'm letting go of things I no longer need to make room for the new person I want to be. Someone who is free from ties to the past other than memories of happiness.

My new year's resolution is simplicity and this works well with everything. Can I make things easier? Do I really need to do that? How many things can I remove from my to do list leaving me with only fun tasks? Does anyone actually care if…? I intend to monotask, I'm on a busy boycott and I like it.

This little motto ring is free to whoever wants it or I like the sound of or seems most worthy. I have no random number generator so leave a message, it could be you.

Firsts

It's been a day of firsts. I have been feeling a little bit under the weather and after being sick this morning I did not want to sit in the car for hours. So my husband and children have gone to visit my family without me. This did make me so sad but as there was nothing I could do about it, I thought I would just do my best to enjoy having time completely to myself. I have never been alone in the house over night. People have been away and I've been away but I have never had the whole place to myself for the whole night. I've finally got to grips with instagram and how the liking and the following and the whole thing works. I even got my first ever like which was so exciting. I'm guessing it's pretty addictive. Who should I follow? Where do I find people who love the same things as me? I think I still need a bit of help. And for the first time ever, an ironing board has been the object of my desire. I don't think that it even crossed my mind that ironing...

My first giveaway - Mod Podge Paperweight

My first giveaway I have learnt so much about blogging in such a short space of time, but what seems strikingly obvious is how important your readers are. One of the other things I noted is, the generosity of the bloggers with their giveaways. Everyone likes to get something for nothing, it is always quite exciting to be a winner and what better way to keep and increase your readership. What's even better is, that I get to make up the rules. So I am very pleased to announce my first giveaway. This is it. It is a glass paperweight that I made today using some scrap material from my quilt, a charity shop treasure and one of my favourite new discoveries - Mod Podge How I made it Materials * A glass tile (I found this one in the 50p basket in a charity shop yesterday) *Some totally gorgeous fabric - this is Kaffe Fassett Fabric - Milliefiore - Red * Sparkle Mod Podge It was really quite simple after I had found all the materials. I measured and cut the fabric to the sam...

Gathered

The more I craft, the more I read and blog about craft. One of my favourite crafty magazines is Mollie Makes . If the world were just like an edition of Mollie Makes magazine then I would be very happy. It is just filled with the most deliciously fabulous craftiness and super talented people. I really do look forward to every copy dropping on the door mat each month. Recently life has got even better because the makers of Mollie Makes now produce a weekly online interactive magazine called Gathered. Once again it is full to the brim with beautiful loveliness and is out every Friday with all the best ideas to keep you busy over the next week. I do love it so and even better than all of that, this week one of my photos has been included in the Show and Tell collection. I was so excited. It's a photo of my crochet African flowers stacked up ready to make to make a Christmas stocking that you can see here and I am hoping to sell at the school Christmas fair on Thursday but i...
