Sunday Snapshots

At last, things are starting to get a little bit easier and I can start getting on with the whole living thing.

After the overly complex stitchery I started on one of the flowers for my embroidered dress at the beginning of the week, it felt like I would never get it either right or finished. My mood darkened, but I kept at it and then suddenly it was finished.

The kitchen is no longer the sensory nightmare of the last couple of months, as long as I am the only one in there. I even managed to gather a harvest from the allotment and make a potato curry with my homegrown produce.

I’ve also managed to not only go properly outside but took on my own autistic/ PTSD challenge. In true over the top ADHD style, I went on a day trip to The Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace, the perfect overwhelmingly stimulating environment to anxiously await the boy’s Kent Test results.

If I can cope with needle-felted Sherlocks, then I can probably start to engage in some of those day to day activities that have been causing me such distress.

The Natural World of Needle felting  (more on  the show to follow in another blog post).

Inspired and motivated following my mum school trip, I finally got around to starting my next Ridgeway Cottage Treasures project with a bit of Lino cutting.

Close supervision curtesy of the real life Sherlock who as ever brought a ball to the party incase I fancied a break.

Although I found the “surprise we are early ”invasion from the plumbers completely rattled my box of neatly packed PTSD symptoms and tipped them out all over the floor, it wasn’t the end of the world. Yes they arrived 3 days early and then not only ignored the request to phone before they came but also arrived 3 hours before the allotted slot. And yes they shook the foundations of the house with their pneumatic drill when they made a massive hole into the house. And also if that drill didn’t overload my autistic ears enough, they used a circular saw to cut my original Victorian floorboards. However when you’ve got a leak under your house, this is how it’s fixed and so we went out to the beach. As is now traditional, we had chips at the beach for lunch. It is always lovely surprise to get your chips served in the same bowl your grandmother used.

And then the mid October sun came out and life didn’t seem so bad at all.

The temperature started to sore back into the twenties but with a special golden autumn warmth.

And it most definitely was warm enough for a paddle in the sea.

Firsts

It's been a day of firsts. I have been feeling a little bit under the weather and after being sick this morning I did not want to sit in the car for hours. So my husband and children have gone to visit my family without me. This did make me so sad but as there was nothing I could do about it, I thought I would just do my best to enjoy having time completely to myself. I have never been alone in the house over night. People have been away and I've been away but I have never had the whole place to myself for the whole night. I've finally got to grips with instagram and how the liking and the following and the whole thing works. I even got my first ever like which was so exciting. I'm guessing it's pretty addictive. Who should I follow? Where do I find people who love the same things as me? I think I still need a bit of help. And for the first time ever, an ironing board has been the object of my desire. I don't think that it even crossed my mind that ironing...

My first giveaway - Mod Podge Paperweight

My first giveaway I have learnt so much about blogging in such a short space of time, but what seems strikingly obvious is how important your readers are. One of the other things I noted is, the generosity of the bloggers with their giveaways. Everyone likes to get something for nothing, it is always quite exciting to be a winner and what better way to keep and increase your readership. What's even better is, that I get to make up the rules. So I am very pleased to announce my first giveaway. This is it. It is a glass paperweight that I made today using some scrap material from my quilt, a charity shop treasure and one of my favourite new discoveries - Mod Podge How I made it Materials * A glass tile (I found this one in the 50p basket in a charity shop yesterday) *Some totally gorgeous fabric - this is Kaffe Fassett Fabric - Milliefiore - Red * Sparkle Mod Podge It was really quite simple after I had found all the materials. Gathered

The more I craft, the more I read and blog about craft. One of my favourite crafty magazines is Mollie Makes . If the world were just like an edition of Mollie Makes magazine then I would be very happy. It is just filled with the most deliciously fabulous craftiness and super talented people. I really do look forward to every copy dropping on the door mat each month. Recently life has got even better because the makers of Mollie Makes now produce a weekly online interactive magazine called Gathered. Once again it is full to the brim with beautiful loveliness and is out every Friday with all the best ideas to keep you busy over the next week. I do love it so and even better than all of that, this week one of my photos has been included in the Show and Tell collection. I was so excited. It's a photo of my crochet African flowers stacked up ready to make to make a Christmas stocking that you can see here and I am hoping to sell at the school Christmas fair on Thursday but i...
