Beach give away

We may be heading towards the Spring in the UK but outside it really is properly dreary, the complete opposite to those dreamy two weeks I spent drenched in sunlight whilst I was in Australia. I've been spoilt by my trip overseas, I no longer wish to settle for grey drizzle now that I have had a glimpse of those golden rays.

But as the chances of me going anywhere other than work, to make up the hours I missed, are very slim, I thought I might try to spread a little happiness with a "Beach" style give away.

So I am giving away this hand and machine stitched mini quilt. It had a red, white and blue striped background with blue coloured cotton lettering, edged with white hand sewn running stitch. It is made totally from reused and recycled fabrics.

Pre-loved Story

The striped fabric is from one of my favourite charity shops, Age Concern. There is a small box of scrap fabric which I always look through. This fabric was brought about 3 years ago and has sat in the drawer of my 1910 Singer sewing machine cabinet, waiting for the perfect project. The blue lettering is from a pair of my son's trousers that have spent my hours at the beach, making sandcastles and paddling in the sea.

Re-love Story

I would love this mini quilt to find a home in a beach hut, living side by side with a striped wind break and old canvas deck chair. It is quite an appropriate colourway for the anyone with the Aussie / UK double life like mine and would look fabulous on a tea tray with the best china, cucumber sandwiches and scones or next to a barbie meatfest with a few cold beers.

100% Cotton and machine washable. The quilt measures 25 x 20.5 cm

And all you need to do to win is leave me a comment about the beach and I will do some random picker thing to choose a winner in a couple of weeks. Good luck guys ;)

Comments

  1. I used to live near the beach, but sadly not any more - Northamptonshire is about as far from the beach as you can get in England!
So I'm afraid I couldn't promise your lovely quilt a home in a beach hut; but it would certainly be loved!

You can find some very lovely ones by searching on the internet or there are some here, here ,  or here . I liked these...

Granny square Christmas

When I was younger I fell in love with the granny square blanket my Nan had made. It was in her tiny little Welsh cottage near the mountains and was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen. So many colours and combinations of colours, it was just truly amazing. I'm not sure if it's the happy childhood memories or my ever increasing passion for crocheting, but granny squares (and doilies) are something I could fill me life with. Even more delightful are the variations on granny squares. Star burst blanket, which used to be my favourite, but I have recently had a go at African flowers. They are quick and easy to make and so very pretty. Thanks to the brilliant free pattern that I found here , I have managed to make a little crochet Christmas stocking made out of 16 1/2 motifs. I am happy with the how the little Christmas stocking turned out and am now rather fond of African flowers, star burst and granny squares, well actually, all...

The Pink Ladies

As we sat in our classroom inspired horseshoe, designed to encourage conversation, there was a slightly uneasy silence. Those of us who knew each other, stole furtive glances, others returned our smiles politely although they were not privy to the planning and discussion that had occurred in preparation for the evening. The time had slowed, 8pm seemed an age away. The silence was intermittently interspersed with brief attemps at small talk and the rants of a drunk outside on the city streets. The commanding presence of our WI advisor Dorothy, had the air of an experienced headmistress or well respected senior relative which in the event of such formalities made me feel foolish in my .....excitement. Some of us stifled giggles as advice was provided on the process, as we had already made the majority of our formal decisions but it was with noticeable nerves, that I raised my hand to the question of who wished to be President.   So that's it, another new chapter has open...
