The last few days have been quite tough and I have not been feeling myself at all. It seems that much like the weather, my mood can change in the blink of eye and the clouds covering my sun are quite an accurate representation of the darkness that hangs heavy over my spirit. There are of course reasons for my despondency but these are far too tedious to mention when there are vintage French notions to discuss. So as I lay tucked up in my bed watching Funny Face starring the delightfully elegant and tres chic Mademoiselle Audrey Hepburn, I daydreamed of dancing to Jazz in stylish ballet flats in Parisian Cafes and perused one of my favourite books.
The book, French General: Treasured Notions, is a fabulous book describing the most exciting adventure of uncovering boxes and boxes full of vintage 1920s and 1930s French notions, metallic thread and trim in the basement of The Tinsel Trading Company in Manahattan, New York City. In the words of Ms Hepburn, "The mind reels."
So I set about firstly imagining (as I was in bed) and then collecting various items that could reflect my own representation. Not many are french and not all are vintage but I do have some old metallic trim. I am happy with the collection so far and rather excited about turning them into a truly fabulous (I hope) creation for my Auntie's birthday.
